Fox Maple Traveling Timber Framing Workshops

Kauai, Hawaii, 2001 Photos

The following are photos from the 2001 workshop in Kauai.
The timber framing workshop in Kauai, Hawaii, in November 2001 was a great success. The workshop site was just yards from the beach, and within a mile of Ha'ena State Park, which is where the road ends at the beginning of the Napali Coast. The Napali Coast is one of the most pristine areas in all of the Hawaiian Islands. The timbers were all milled on site from kamani and ironwood logs. The logs were sourced within several hundreds yards from the site. There is an abundance of timber resources on the island that essentially are going to waste. It was a great group, coming as far away as Australia and New Zealand and Maine (yes, one student who lives an hour from our shop came to the workshop). Along with lot's of timber framing, we found time to get a bit of surfing in as well. We're planning future workshops on Kauai, so keep posted. The following are a few photos. Thanks to Darin, Heidi, Devon, Matt, Oliver, Elishia, James, Scott, Paul, Thomas, Michael M., Shawn, Amy, Andy, Michael L. and  Aiden, for taking part, and special thanks to Sandy for providing such wonderful food.
